Introduction to Plone
Quick start guide to using the Plone Content Management system to add and edit pages on the AstroGrid web site
To be able to log in to the system to add, edit or comment on pages:
Reques an account for yourself using the contact form and log in once you have received your password. Your "User Name" should be of the form FirstnameLastname with the initials capitalised and no space inbetween, e.g. JosephBloggs
There are currently problems caused when selecting "Enable external editing" as a preference - please do not do this until further notice.
The default content editor is kupu - it will be assumed that this is what you are using for the purposes of this introduction to Plone.
To add content:
- click on 'my folder' on the right hand side of the horizontal navigation bar:

- click on 'add to folder' and select the type of item you wish to add - "page" would be a good first option:

- add a Title, Description and the Body Text - you can format the Body Text using the built in editor or in raw html if you click the 'edit HTML code' button (
) on the editor menu - click the 'save' button at the bottom of the page
To add a link within a page:
- highlight the text you wish to link to
- click 'internal link' icon (
) on the editing toolbar - navigate (or use search) to find the file you wish to link to and click 'ok'
Making a page viewable by everyone
Once you have saved your page, the current state is visible on the green toolbar. Currently, by default, new pages are set to be private:

To change this and make the page visible to non-members of the Plone site, click on the drop down arrow and select 'make visible':

To add a News item
You can add news either in your home folder ('my folder') or in the news-items folder. Click on 'add item' and then choose 'news item'. Once you have added your news you will need to submit your news for approval before it can be published (unless you have publishing rights)
