This page shows you how to use the AstroGrid workbench to get the IPHAS ADQL query interface

.1. Load the Astrogrid Workbench and click on Task Launcher.

.2. Type IPHAS in the Find: box and click on search. After a few moments you will have several results back. Click on the first name (in the name, not in the check box) and make sure that in the description it lists adql as one of its interfaces (see red square in screenshot below).

.3. Next click on the tick box next to the name; a new dialog will appear asking for the interface to use, click ok as we want to use the adql interface.

.4. You will get a dialog like the one shown below. Take your time to familiarize with this interface. At the right there is a tab list of all the tables accesible in the database (that is the ones which the publisher has decided to make public). You can click on any of them to bring a brief description and the list of the columns contained in each database and their units, description, UCDs.

.5. The big white panel on the left is where you type your ADQL query. ADQL stands for Astronomical Data Query Language and is a subset of SQL. There are two ways of writting your ADQL: (1) By clicking the Adql/s tab and typing ADQL directly or (2) by using the Tree tab and construct your query using the mouse (left clicks + drag and drop columns). The following screenshot shows the first method. You can of course switch between different panels whenever you want. Note: you have to switch to the tree view before submitting the query

.6. In order to save the output in a file click on the Parameter tab on the left and click on the box under Ref in Outputs. Then use the file browser to select a file to save to. Then click on the green arrow to execute the task.

.7. This will open the VOLookup window in which you can monitor the progress of the query and send the results to TOPCAT.

NB: you get the topcat option ONLY if you have TopCat running at the same time - see Helper-Applications for info.
